Gender Based Violence
Gender Based Violence

I am Thabiso, 24 years of age. In 2021, I nearly committed murder of my of 25 year old girlfriend who I met just before the COVID-19 lockdown, since during that time, bars were not opened, and I did not know that she drinks. It was after the lockdown that she started showing me her true colors. She spend weekends away from me with other men. This really got me so mad, I took a decision to murder her and commit suicide. I bought a knife and a rope, to use for both occasions. I was so depressed I thought that was the only way out. A day before I intended to go and commit the atrocities, I remember that I once heard of an organization called Kebotlhokwa where I can seek help. I did exactly that, they provided counselling and eventually, I abundant the whole ideas that I heard earlier. They encouraged me to go back to school, and I did. I ended up referring two of my friends, 21- and 24-year-old Richard and Mothusi, who also had similar problems and had the same thoughts.
Kebotlhokwa really makes their clients, feel special, just like the name mean. I will recommend it to men and boys to seek help if they are being abused. I was not judged, I really felt I belonged.

In 2020 had a shelter in Kanye, supported by Synergia Human Rights, Kebotlhokwa housed than 200 women, who experienced gender-based violence, through the provision of shelter, counselling and social support, like food hampers, clothes and housing.
