Our Story
Kebotlhokwa Care Center was registered in 2016. From its
inception, it had always been a center for Children, Adolescents and Youth.
The founder Mrs. Boingotlo Gupta, who is now the Director of
Kebotlhokwa Care Center, started her work as a volunteer as
Finance and Administration of Bomme Isago Association in 2006. The mandate for the organization was to advocate for Sexual Reproductive Health Rights of Women and Girls living with HIV/AIDS in Botswana.
It was during her work with Bomme Isago Association, when addressing the drivers of HIV/AIDS among Women and Girls that the gap was realized. Gender Based Violence has always been a sore in our nation, but the response has never been wholistic, this left out the children of abused families.
Our Story continues
Research has shown that children who grow up in abusive families are likely to become abusers (bullying), or victims. Others end up having low self-esteem, emotionally depressed, mental health issues/sicknesses, anxiety,
Abused children and children against the law and young people issues came up all the time and this drove an interest in their advocacy.
The rape, defilement, incest, and neglect of children were highlighted in 2014 when the organization focused on the effects of Gender Based Violence in HIV/AIDS response that led to the organization being awarded the best National GBV Response, which led to another award in 2015 for the Best National Leader on response to HIV & GBV which was awarded to KCC now Director and founder.
